17.12.2009 - The Bergisches Land Education Award 2009
For the fifth year running the Bergisches Land Education Award was hosted by the Automotive Network. 60 senior school pupils were given the opportunity to find out more about one of the companies taking part during a day spent developing a project at the company.
Pupils from Solingen, Remscheid and Wuppertal were hosted by GEDORE on 2 October 2009. The project brief was given after a presentation about the company and a tour of the main production facilities in Remscheid. The pupils had to develop a new area of business for each host company alongside its traditional business supplying the automotive industry. The focus had to be on the capabilities and strengths of the host company.
The team of four girls and one boy quickly came up with a new area of business for GEDORE: tools for women. Women do not just look for quality but also for an attractive design, so the tool for women was presented in different formats with a variety of colours and engraved patterns. The team gave a 10 minute presentation featuring a pink tool case with a tool for minor repairs in front of a 12 strong jury the next day.
The results were presented on 3 October in the Hako Event Arena in Wuppertal.
The jury of representatives from the 12 participating companies from Solingen, Remscheid and Wuppertal were looking for creativity, real content, insight, teamwork and the ability to communicate.
The Hako Automotive team came third with their graphic presentation of a new technique for saving space in aeroplanes.
The team from Scheiba that looked at stamping technology and tool production reached second place. The pupils saw new business potential in jewellery made from waste products.
Finally, first place went to the team from Brose that specialises in locking systems. The pupils were out to conquer the household market by building locking systems into fridges and doors controlled by sensors to make day-to-day life a little easier.
The organisers praised the commitment of the pupils and offered all participants internships at the participating companies.
